Food Issues_IATEFL



 "The idea behind this month is to raise awareness in your classes and your schools about an issue relating to food."   
IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) has just launched the discussion theme for October : "Teaching food with a conscience".

Among the possible issues, I chose: sustainability and prepared a vocabulary activity that gives a quick overview on small-scale agriculture in the northeast of Brazil.

The file below has been designed to be a complement to any food-related class and the vocabulary range is suitable for lower-intermediate levels.

*explain the importance of manioc and maiz as major ingredients in the Brazilian culture,
* introduce typical dishes prepared with them
* promote a discussion via QR codes with follow up questions

Rescuing your purposes and resolutions

This is the first post of 2018. May we all have a happy and prosperous new year !!! When blogging we tend to start off by having some resolutions in mind. Today with me it was not different but for one detail: Facebook brought up a memory of a blog post from january 2014. At the doctor: Explaining symptoms

How to explain common symptoms at a doctor's office or E.R. ( Emergency Room ). There's an integration of video sitcom, audio recording of a doctor-patient typical dialogue and infographics for pair or group work activity and qr codes! Feel free to use everything as a class sequence or choose one of the activities to integrate with your class. This is very suitable for pre-intermediate levels and what I liked most is the fact that there is room for expanding on vocabulary and also having fun with the typical Friends jokes that come up.
